Evaluation Team Reports (ETR)
Flourish Academic & Psychological Services, LLC offers comprehensive, evidence-based assessments tailored to each student's unique needs. Our evaluations are designed to provide clear insights with practical next steps, focusing on a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach. Understanding a student's unique academic or behavioral challenges is crucial for school teams and parents seeking the best support and interventions. Flourish's process ensures schools and families receive detailed, individualized information and guidance. By combining teacher and parent interviews, standardized testing and rating scales, and direct observations, Flourish Academic and Psychological Services, LLC delivers a thorough assessment that considers each student's strengths and aims to empower families with knowledge and options. Detailed reports include recommendations tailored to the child, advice on appropriate services, school accommodations, and community support options, ensuring a balanced approach to care.
Independent Educational Evaluation
An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a comprehensive, unbiased assessment conducted by a qualified examiner who is not employed by the child's school district. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), parents have the legal right to request an IEE at public expense if they disagree with an evaluation conducted by the school district. IEE's can help with identifying overlooked student needs that the school district's evaluation may have missed. It offers detailed, personalized, and sometimes more in-depth recommendations tailored to the child's unique needs. It acts as independent, evidence-based documentation that parents can use to advocate for appropriate services in IEP meetings. It serves as a second opinion when parents believe the school's evaluation is incomplete or inaccurate.
Consultation
We offer a wide range of educational consultation services, including review of educational records, recommendations for next steps, and attendance to school meetings as advocates. At Flourish, we are dedicated to serving as a bridge between families and schools, focusing on helping parents understand their student's options and educational documents. Consultation services begin with a virtual meeting to determine the needs and strengths of the student and family. Next steps are discussed in collaboration with families.
Gifted Evaluations
Flourish offers a range of gifted assessments that are in compliance with Ohio's Department of Education and Workforce's standards. Families interested in testing to determine if their student would qualify for gifted services start with a consultation through virtual meeting. After this, testing is scheduled to assess for giftedness in academic or cognitive skills. A final report will be provided to document results. School districts may also request these assessments to be provided during the school day.
Orton-Gillingham Interventions
Orton-Gillingham (OG) interventions are highly structured, multisensory educational approaches designed to teach foundational reading and writing skills. Originally developed to support individuals with dyslexia, OG interventions explicitly teach the connections between letters and sounds, allowing students to decode words rather than relying on memorization. Because of its effectiveness, the OG approach aligns with the core principles of the Science of Reading.
Core Principles: Orton-Gillingham is not a rigid program, but rather an approach guided by specific foundational principles: It is multisensory, sequential and structured, explicit, and both diagnostic and prescriptive.
-
Multisensory: Lessons engage multiple learning pathways simultaneously. Students use visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), and kinesthetic-tactile (feeling/moving) senses to internalize language. For example, a student might trace a letter in shaving cream while saying its sound aloud.
-
Sequential and Structured: Instruction begins with the most basic, foundational language concepts and gradually builds to more complex rules. Students must fully master a concept before moving on to the next.
-
Explicit: Instructors do not expect students to infer language rules; instead, the phonics rules and patterns of the English language are directly taught.
-
Diagnostic and Prescriptive: Instructors continuously assess the student’s progress and adjust lessons to fit the student's specific learning pace, daily needs, strengths, and challenges
